The Malaysian Paediatric Association (MPA)...
And the Malaysian Society of Allergy and Immunology (MSAI)...
Launched a Cow's Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA) Awareness Campaign...
To help raise awareness,
And educate parent,
About CMPA amongst children.
CMPA is the most common form of food allergy in infants...
According to studies,
CMPA can develop from birth and peak within the first year,
Before subsiding in about three or four years.
However,
A study involving 807 children with CMPA found that,
The condition can persist into adolescence,
In approximately one third of these children,
With 12% of them,
Remaining allergic to cow's milk,
Until the age of 18 years.
'CMPA amongst Children' Forum,
With Dr Chai Pei Fan,
Consultant Paediatrician and Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist...
Member of the College of Paediatrics, Academy of Medicine Malaysia (AMMCOP)...
According to Dr Chai,
CMPA symptoms amongst young children,
Can occur within minutes of ingestion,
Starting with skin irritation,
Digestive problems,
Extreme irritability,
And even anaphylaxis,
A severe allergy reaction.
Parents need to know,
What they're dealing with,
And take the next step to manage CMPA appropriately!~
In the management of CMPA,
Is eliminating cow's milk protein,
From the child's diet...
A substitute formula may not be necessary,
For infants who are breastfed and children above the age of 2 years old.
Instead,
Continuation of breastfeeding,
With maternal elimination of cow's milk protein is recommended.
For children below the age of 2 years and non-breastfed children,
Replacement of cow's milk with a substitute formula is recommended.
With extensively hydrolysed formula (EHF)
Being the first and preferred option.
Contrary to common beliefs,
Soy-based formula is not suitable,
For children below six months,
Due to unknown long-term effects,
Of the high aluminium and phytoestrogen content.
The lucky draw winners' prizes.....
Yet,
I think every bloggers went home,
With at least a prize!~
Thanks to MPA, MSAI, Dumex Sciences Institute & IN.Deed Communications!~
